A man was arrested after allegedly hitting a victim over the head with a beer bottle before kicking him and causing him to bleed on Monday.
Lee County deputies received a call for reports of a physical disturbance at the Gulf Gas Station on Palm Beach Boulevard in east Fort Myers.
Upon arrival, deputies say they found the victim on the ground bleeding from his head.
Detectives were able to identify the attacker as Jose Vargas, 34, who reportedly said something to deputies that was enough to be put in handcuffs.
Detectives gathered surveillance footage. Video showed that Vargas appeared to be the aggressor in the incident and the victim only fought back in defense.
Reports say Vargas was holding the victim by the shirt during the entire incident before hitting him in the head with a beer bottle. The victim then fell to the ground before Vargas kicked him in the head and walked away.
The victim was taken to a Lee County hospital, where reports say he received multiple staples for the lacerations on his head.
Vargas was arrested for aggravated battery and taken to the Lee County Jail, according to reports.
