Man arrested for shooting during Fourth of July celebration in Cape Coral

A man was arrested after reportedly firing a gun inside a home along SW 47th Street in Cape Coral during a Fourth of July celebration.

Around 9:30 p.m., police responded to the home, where there was a large crowd of people outside drinking and lighting fireworks.

Witnesses told Cape Coral police that Jarred Daniel Hill, 30, said he wanted to shoot his rifle into the air while others were lighting off fireworks. According to CCPD, someone at the party noticed that Hill had been drinking and it would be unsafe behavior.

The person then took the rifle and placed it inside the home. However, Hill reportedly followed them into the home leading to a verbal and physical argument.

Reports say the person turned around, and Hill was pointing a black handgun at them. CCPD said he fired one round and missed them.

Police officers were able to recover the rifle and handgun. They also found significant damage to the doorframe inside the home and a shell casing on the floor.

According to CCPD, Hill also resisted officers’ attempts to put him in handcuffs.

Hill is facing the following charges at this time:

  • One count of aggravated assault with a weapon
  • One count of battery, touch or strike
  • One count of resisting an officer without violence
