Man dies after driving off the road, crashing into a ditch in Alachua

One man is dead in Alachua County after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper says he drove off the road and crashed into a ditch.

Troopers say a 70-year-old man was driving a pickup truck near Northwest 218th Street in Alachua around 5:00 Monday evening when he started drifting into oncoming traffic.

Troopers say he drove into a ditch and collided with a wooden fence.

He was taken to UF Shands Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
