Man found shot multiple times on Northside dies at hospital

A man in his early 40s was found with multiple gunshot wounds Thursday night on Jacksonville’s Northside and died at the hospital, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Sgt. Steve Rudlaff with the JSO Homicide Unit said officers were called to Maidstone Cove Drive, just north of the Trout River off Lem Turner Road, around 9:45 p.m. Thursday because of a report that someone had been shot.

When they arrived, they found the man, believed to be 40-45 years old, with multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel responded and took the man to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators said a person has been detained and is being questioned at JSO headquarters downtown.

Rudlaff said they don’t know the circumstances of the shooting or the relationships of those involved, but they are continuing to investigate.

Rudlaff said investigators believe it is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office by phone at 904-630-0500, by email at jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org or via CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
