Man found with gunshot wound after potential robbery in Lithia: deputies

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation Sunday after a man was reportedly shot during a potential robbery.

Initial reports of a possible shooting came in around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, the sheriff’s office said. The incident was believed to have occurred near Hobson Simmons Road in Lithia.

An adult was found with a gunshot wound only a short time later. Authorities said the man had driven himself to the FishHawk Sporting Clays facility, which is less than a mile from the location of the reported shooting.

As of Sunday afternoon, it remained unclear why the man drove to the facility, but investigators said the man may have been the victim of a robbery.

He was taken from the shooting range to a local hospital to receive treatment for the gunshot wound to his forearm.

Deputies said his injuries appeared to be “non-life-threatening,” and he was listed in stable condition at the hospital.

The investigation was ongoing Sunday, and no further information was immediately available.
