Man killed in Desoto County airboat crash identified

Investigators have identified the airboat captain who died after a crash on the Peace River Saturday in DeSoto County.

Lee County deputies have identified Michael Flint of Buckingham, Florida, as the victim in the crash.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Flint had two other people on board. They sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

NBC2 learned that Flint was a father of two and owned an air conditioning company.

NBC2 spoke with friends and family of Flint who say he was a man with a big heart.

“He was full of life. He was the most amazing man I have ever known,” Michael’s friend Crystal Byrd said.

Investigators have not identified the two victims who were injured after the boat hit a tree limb in the water. There is no update on their current condition at this time.

LCSO says this is still an active investigation.

You can count on NBC2 to provide updates as they become available.
