Man pulls knife on Broward Church’s Chicken worker while shouting racial slurs, cops say

Broward County deputies arrested a convicted felon Monday after accusing him of threatening an assistant manager at a fast food restaurant with a knife while calling him racial slurs.

According to an arrest report, the crime happened at around 6:45 p.m. at the Church’s Texas Chicken at 2401 W. Sunrise Blvd. in unincorporated central Broward.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office report states that Marco Lewis Augustus, 41, of Fort Lauderdale, walked into the store and began yelling at employees.

Deputies said the store’s assistant manager went toward the counter to see if he could help Augustus.

Augustus began to call the assistant manager, who is Hispanic, “‘white (sic) back’ and other racial slurs,” the report states.

He then left the restaurant but kept yelling in the parking lot, prompting the assistant manager to come out and ask him to leave the premises, deputies said.

The report states Augustus put his bags down, pulled out a switchblade and began to walk towards the assistant manager “while continuing to yell racial slurs,” the report states, prompting the victim to call 911.

Deputies said once Augustus noticed the assistant manager was on the phone with 911, he left.

The report states that deputies found him walking on Sunrise Boulevard and ordered him to the ground; he refused.

Augustus was “eventually detained,” deputies said. The report states that deputies found the knife.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting without violence.

State records show Augustus has served time in prison after convictions for burglary and providing false information to a pawnbroker.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held in the BSO Main Jail on a $15,500 bond.
