Medical episode causes 4-vehicle crash on Selmon Expressway

A Lutz man caused a four-vehicle crash on the Selmon Expressway Monday evening after suffering a medical episode, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said at around 5:33 p.m., a 54-year-old man from Lutz was driving his Ford F-150 down the Selmon Expressway when he suffered the ppisode west of 21st Street.

According to troopers, the man accidentally sped forward and crashed into a Toyota Tacoma. He then crashed into another vehicle ahead of him before crashing into a guardrail and one of the pillars for the expressway’s upper deck.

After this crash, a tire popped off and hit a fourth vehicle.

While the first driver suffered serious injuries, the other drivers managed to escape the incident unscathed.
