A Miami-Dade man was arrested early Monday morning following a domestic dispute with his ex-wife that escalated when he forcibly took her cellphone and threatened to take her life, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Miami-Dade police said officers responded to a domestic-related robbery call at around 5:30 a.m. near the 20800 block of San Simeon Way.
The suspect, who police identified in an arrest report as 44-year-old R G, fled the scene but returned shortly after, and was taken into custody.
According to the report, the victim reported that her ex-husband, G, had come to her home after work and approached her aggressively.
She said the altercation started over an argument regarding infidelity, the report stated.
The victim told police that when G demanded to see her cellphone, she refused, according to investigators.
The refusal escalated the situation, leading G to become physically aggressive, grabbing the victim by the neck and demanding the phone again, according to police.
In fear for her safety, authorities said the victim complied and allowed him to take the cellphone from her pocket.
Once G had possession of the victim’s cellphone, police said he demanded her password, threatening to kill her if she did not comply.
In fear for her life, the victim gave him the password, at which point he let go of her neck, police said.
Authorities said G then spent a considerable amount of time going through the victim’s cellphone before returning it to her and fleeing the area.
The victim identified G as her ex-husband in a photograph, police said.
After taking G into custody, detectives said he provided a recorded confession, which was redacted in the publicly released report.
Jail records show he is facing one count of strongarm robbery and battery.
As of Tuesday, G was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
