Two people were hospitalized early Friday morning after a minivan struck a parked box truck on Interstate 75 in Marion County.
The accident took place at around 1:10 a.m. on Friday, June 14, near mile marker 348 on I-75 Northbound.
According to Ocala Fire Rescue, a passerby reported that a vehicle had veered off the roadway, crashing into a truck that was parked on the shoulder.
When OFR crews arrived on scene, they observed a rear-end collision that involved a minivan that was “wedged under the back of a box truck.” The driver and sole occupant of the minivan was trapped in the wreckage.
After stabilizing the minivan, OFR crews used extrication tools to remove both of the minivan’s doors on the driver’s side. Medical personnel then proceeded to stabilize the driver before carefully removing them from the vehicle.
The minivan’s driver was placed onto a backboard and transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert.
The sole occupant of the box truck was also transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. No further details were provided regarding any injuries sustained in the crash.
The Ocala Police Department, Marion County Fire Rescue, and Florida Highway Patrol also responded to the scene of the accident on Friday morning.
