Multi-fatality crash involving large-capacity vehicle closes SR-40 in Marion County

A multi-fatality crash involving a large-capacity vehicle has prompted the closure of State Road 40 in Marion County, authorities said.

The wreck happened around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday on S.R. 40 near SW 157th Terrace near Ocala.

S.R. 40 is from U.S. 41 to West County Road (C.R.) 328

“Motorists should avoid the area and take alternate routes,” the Florida Department of Transportation said.

Motorists headed east on S.R. 40 should take U.S. 41 northbound to West C.R. 328, then take West C.R. 328 east back to S.R. 40.

Motorists westbound on S.R. 40 should take West C.R. 328 west to U.S. 41, then take U.S. 41 south back to S.R. 40.

S.R. 40 may be closed for an extended period of time as an investigation is conducted, FDOT said.

Marion County Public Schools said a school bus was used to transport victims involved in the crash, but a MCPS bus was NOT involved in the wreck.

No other details have been released.
