Mum of Scots WWE wrestler dies in Florida after being hit by car on family holiday

The mum of Scots WWE wrestler has died in Florida after she was hit by a car while visiting her daughter.

Bridgeen Mitchell, from Paisley, was struck by a vehicle in Orlando as she crossed the street with her partner on May 17.

The 51-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Local police officers said the driver cooperated at the scene and no charges are expected.

It is understood she had flown out for a family holiday to visit her daughter, Kayleigh Rae, who is a pro-wrestler known as Alba Fyre, in the US.

Kayleigh, 31, said there were “no words to describe how devastated” her family was in a moving tribute to her mum.

She said: “On Friday my mum and dad were hit by a vehicle while crossing the road. Unfortunately my mum didn’t make it.

“Words cannot describe how devastated we all are. She was the most caring, fun loving person, the life of every party, and the biggest wee legend we all knew. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

“We know everyone will be feeling this loss, and while our family would appreciate some privacy at this time we’d like people to remember my mum for all the love she brought to everyone.”

Kayleigh, who is married to fellow Scottish pro-wrestler Stephen Kerr, better known as Stevie Boy, made a name for herself on the UK wrestling circuit before making her way across the pond. She holds the record for the longest reign as the NXT UK Women’s Champion in WWE’s history.

Her dad Ronnie Higgins who described Bridgeen as his “soul mate” said: “I can’t come to terms with what has happened to us. I am struggling but we are strong people together and my aim in life now is to carry on being strong for the rest of our family the way Bridgeen would have. My world has been ripped apart.”

Friends and family have been left shocked by the tragedy, with tributes pouring in for Bridgeen who has been described as a “local legend.”

Stacey Gordon said: “Your wee mammy was one of a kind, a wee legend.”

Nikole Brown added:” Lost for words, she was the best. Always there for me, checking in when she didn’t have to. I’ll forever miss her.”

Katie Kerrigan posted: “She was one in a million, everyone who knew her will be heartbroken. A legend that will be forever in my heart, rest now ma wee pal.”

While Kate Morrison said: “I can’t believe she is gone. You are right, she was life and soul of the party and very funny. Some of her quips cracked me up, RIP Bridgeen you will be sorely missed.”
