New video shows stabbing suspect force his way into Homestead subdivision before attack.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – In a recent and unsettling turn of events, newly-obtained surveillance footage has brought to light the chilling moments leading up to a violent attack within a Homestead subdivision.

The burglary and stabbing incident unfolded just after 3:30 a.m. on a Wednesday within the Waterstone community, situated in the 3700 block of Northeast 10th Court. The surveillance footage obtained in the aftermath offers a sobering glimpse into the events that transpired.

According to the video, a security guard permitted the accused, Jose Armel Saavedra, 24, to enter the complex through the main gate. This transpired shortly after the victim had returned home following a night out with her friends.

What the surveillance footage reveals is the suspect’s unwavering determination. He overcame a second layer of security measures, which included a downed crossing arm and a locked security gate. Undeterred, he pressed forward, eventually reaching the victim.

Once inside her home, Saavedra allegedly attacked the victim, subjecting her to a harrowing ordeal of punches and multiple stabbings. Her husband, who was in another room, heard her cries for help and acted swiftly. He pursued the assailant, forcing him out of the house before contacting the police.

Another segment of the footage captures Saavedra’s desperate flight from the scene, culminating in a fall through the very same locked gates that he initially breached. He quickly reentered his SUV and fled. However, the law enforcement response was swift and effective, leading to Saavedra’s apprehension. A vigilant Homestead detective recognized the suspect from the video, noting that he had previously purchased shoes from Saavedra on OfferUp.

Despite the compelling evidence, Saavedra vehemently denied his involvement in the incident and contested being in the city of Homestead when the attack occurred. Currently, he is held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Saavedra’s attorney, Carter Hillstrom, conveyed his client’s plea of not guilty, expressing his anticipation of defending the case in court.
