Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating a crash that left one driver dead and another driver with serious injuries on Sunday.
According to FHP, around 7 a.m. a Gray Nissan Altima was traveling east on US 98 near Research Road in Foggy conditions. A Blue pickup truck was also traveling on US 98 heading west, following an unmarked FWCC law enforcement vehicle.
FHP said for unknown reasons the Nissan driver crossed the center line and went into the path of oncoming traffic.
Law enforcement reports the FWCC Officer was able to swerve out of the way but the driver of the blue pickup truck was not.
FHP reports the front of the Nissan and the truck crashed into one another causing both to turn and end up in a ditch.
Troopers said the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The road was closed for more than two hours but has since reopened.
FHP was assisted on the scene by Tyndall AFB Police, Tyndall AFB Fire Rescue, Bay County EMS, Mexico Beach Fire Rescue, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, and FWCC.
