Orlando woman arrested on DUI charge in fatal crash

A 26-year-old Orlando woman was arrested early Sunday on DUI charges in connection with a fatal Orange County crash.

The deadly wreck happened around 4 a.m. on South Orange Blossom Trail at Skyview Bridge.

The FHP said A W was driving a 2016 Lexus IS south on OBT when a woman was crossing the street but was not in a marked crosswalk.

The Lexus struck the woman, who was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to the FHP.

W, who was not injured and stayed at the scene, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, troopers said.

According to an arrest affidavit, W had watery eyes and “seemed to be confused with the events of the crash”. Alcohol bottles were also seen near her vehicle.

Troopers said when W was asked to provide a recorded statement, she declined and also declined to provide a blood sample multiple times at the scene because she was “scared of needles.”

When attempting to put W in the back of the patrol vehicle, troopers said she was arguing and did not want to get in the vehicle.

After being taken into custody, W requested an ambulance for back pain and while at the hospital, she again declined to give another blood sample, troopers said.
