The National Weather Service office in Melbourne said a storm cell that moved across Orange County early Saturday morning produced damage around Winter Garden and Ocoee.
Wind gusts resulted in downed fences, displaced patio furniture, and a trampoline blown about in one subdivision.
The peak wind gust recorded from that overnight supercell was 58 mph in Orlando around 2:17 a.m.
Families residing between Ocoee and Winter Garden woke up to find their yards, driveways, and streets scattered with branches and debris following strong winds overnight.
Neighbors spent the day cleaning up the storm’s aftermath, with streets lined with fallen branches and debris. Despite the destruction, residents expressed gratitude for their neighbors’ support in the cleanup efforts.
A massive tree fell at West Orlando Baptist Church in Ocoee, but the pastor expressed gratitude for the help received from community members.
“About six to eight guys showed up to help, and some neighbors heard our chainsaws and said, ‘Hey, can you help us?’ So it was cool to see everyone come together and help each other,” explained Pastor Kenric Barnett.
With hurricane season approaching on June 1, residents are now focused on repairing and preparing for potential future storms.
Additionally, reports of damage, including a large snapped tree, downed branches, and minor damage to an apartment complex, were received from Walden Circle in Orlando.
