Panama City Beach Police investigating vehicle fatality involving a Lousiana woman

On Thursday, the Panama City Beach Police Department responded to a medical call in the area of Hidden Lagoon Golf and Racetrack.

Upon arrival, officers located a female lying on Front Beach Road in the westbound travel lanes, suffering from severe head trauma, officials wrote in a news release.

Officials said they identified the woman as 49-year-old Sherry Richie from New Iberia, Louisiana who fell from a moving vehicle.

According to witnesses, Ms. Richie was unsecured and leaning out of a Jeep Wrangler which had its doors removed. She was reportedly holding onto the vehicle in a careless manner when the incident occurred.

Despite efforts from Panama City Beach Fire Rescue and Bay County EMS, officials confirmed she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not impaired, officials said.

Currently, there is nothing to suggest that the matter in which he was operating the vehicle played a factor in the case, officials added.

The investigation is being handled by our Traffic Homicide Investigation team and is ongoing.
