Panama City Beach Police officers report that two people were taken to the hospital after being hit by a car. One later reportedly died from their injuries.
Police said around 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, officers from the Panama City Beach Police Department responded to the traffic crash next to the Busy Bee on Panama City Beach Parkway.
Officers said their preliminary investigations lead them to believe that an SUV, driven by an elderly female, was traveling southbound on Nautilus Street, towards the PCB Parkway intersection, at a “high rate of speed”.
Police said there were two people were walking along the concrete median of Nautilus Street as the car was approaching. Investigators said the car then car swerved into the opposite lane, crossed the concrete median where the people were walking, then corrected back to the southbound lane.
Police said as that was happening, the car hit the two people on the median. They were reportedly taken to an area hospital.
Authorities said one of the pedestrians, a 17-year-old, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. They said the other pedestrian sustained minor injuries. They said the driver and passenger of the car were not injured.
Police added that they do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.
