Pensacola father arrested after 1-year-old child drowns in bathtub

A Pensacola father has been arrested after his 1-year-old boy drowned in a bathtub Thursday.

Marc Basulto, 21, is charged with aggravated manslaughter involving the death of a child.

Deputies were called to a home on Shoal Creek Drive for a cardiac arrest involving a 1-year-old child.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigation revealed that Basulto was alone in his home with his two children. He put his 1-year-old in a bathtub with the water running.

“Basulto then took medication and went to sleep in another room,” the sheriff’s office says in a release. “Two hours later, he was awakened by the sound of the other child crying, at which time he found the one-year-old victim unresponsive in the full and overflowing bathtub.”

The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Basulto was booked into Escambia County Jail at 7:40 p.m. He’s being held without bond.

No further details have been released.
