Several animals are recovering after a kitchen caught fire inside a Brooksville home Monday afternoon.
Hernando County Fire Rescue was called to a home in the 27000 block of Roper Road in Brooksville shortly after 1 p.m. for reports of a fire.


When crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the kitchen and performed an “aggressive” strategy to quickly extinguish the flames, fire rescue said.
Firefighters rescued five dogs and three cats from the blaze. According to HCFR, the animals were given oxygen and are “doing well.” No other injuries were reported.
The Red Cross is assisting the homeowners following the destruction. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
