The talk at Wild Hare Salon and Spa in Boca Raton is the critical case update Fort Lauderdale police shared Tuesday about a devastating hit- and-run that occurred over the summer.
It happened along the 2300 block of Northwest Sixth Street just before midnight on Aug. 11.
The crash severely hurt E A, one of the hair stylists at Wild Hare.
“How am I feeling? I am hanging there, I am holding on,” said A. “I had two surgeries recently — one they washed out the bone from the inside and took the cultures and tests and then they put a metal rod inside with antibiotics, and now I am recovering on that.”
Police are now saying that T S L is the woman who hit him and took off.
While police obtained an arrest warrant for M, they haven’t been able to find her.
“It has been a waiting game,” said salon owner B A. “We all actually can’t wait to hear the day she is apprehended.”
A told Local 10 News that on the night of the crash, he was driving home from the gym and spotted a driver who had run out of gas, so he jumped in to help, pulling over to push the disabled car off the roadway.
That’s when police say M slammed into them, pinning A, and instead of rendering aid, she abandoned her car and left on foot.
“It has been a constant flow of surgeries since the day of the accident,” said A, who added that A suffered a life-altering injury to his right leg and is fighting to keep his left.
“He has had another surgery last week — they are fighting an infection in the left leg,” he said. “He had to get surgery to try it because the right leg was amputated from the knee down, so it has been horrendous for him. He did go back to Orlando where his family is while he is recovering until his next surgery.”
A had a message for anyone in the community who sees M or knows her.
“Turn her in, work with the police, bring her to justice,” he said. “The gentleman who has been suffering since the day this has happened is an extremely brave person, such a nice, nice human being. It should not happen to anybody, but people like E especially has such a good heart. I am amazed his spirits are so positive given what he is going through.”
Added A: “This behavior needs to be punished — people need to pay attention on the road.”
M has a long history of serious traffic citations in Broward County, to include charges of operating without a valid license, resisting without violence, failure to display registration, improper tail lights, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a required child restraint.
