Search underway for four thieves accused of trying to rob Miami jewelry store

Miami Police are looking for four thieves who, they say, attempted to rob a Miami business.

The attempted robbery occurred at the Fresh Dental Smiles and Ashley II Jewelry store on Northwest 7th Street on Monday.

According to police, four men opened a hole in the roof of the dental office next to the jewelry store to get inside. Then, they broke two holes in the walls between the officer and the jewelry store as they tried to rob the safe.

However, the thieves were not successful in robbing the safe and left the store through the hole in the roof.

7News cameras captured crews working on the ripped-open roof to patch it back up.

Surveillance video, shared to 7News by the owners, shows the thieves breaking a hole in the wall behind the desk chair. That hole was opened after they had already opened a hole on the roof to enter close to the safe.

The owner of the store opened for business on Monday, despite the robbery. However, they are locking up all their jewelry for sake keeping and hardening security.

“Today, at 12 a.m., the alarm was activated,” said Odette Cortina, the owner of Ashley II Jewelry. “When my husband tried to check the cameras, it doesn’t work. We keep all of our jewelry in the safe when we go home in the afternoon.”

The thieves turned off the internet, cameras, and alarm system by smashing at all the pieces of the business security systems.

That’s when Cortina’s husband decided to go check everything out.

“That was like 3 a.m. in the morning with his cousin, and they enter here, and they saw the whole mess,” said Cortina.

“I think they don’t have enough time because my husband came and they saw the car and the lights outside in the parking lot and because it’s a short time, when they enter here, and they saw the lights, and they go inside again,” said Cortina.

Video shows the thieves messing with the safe but quickly scattering back through the hole they cut empty-handed.

Now, Cortina hopes justice is the one thing that gets them.

“People came here like me, like my husband, to work, to serve this community. Not to steal from other people that are working so I hope those guys go to jail soon,” said Cortina.

She said she suspects that the four thieves acted as customers beforehand, which is how they knew where everything was and operated. She believes the thieves are professional of the sorts.

“What I think is those guys know, know what they are doing,” said Cortina.

No arrests have been made yet as the investigation continues.
