Single-vehicle accident with entrapment, multiple agencies respond

Crews with the South Walton Fire District responded to a single-vehicle accident with entrapment in the Point Washington Area early Tuesday Morning.

When SWFD B-Shift firefighters arrived on-scene around 5 a.m., they say they found a driver still inside of a heavily damaged truck lying on its side. They say the driver in the vehicle was injured and entrapped near the driver’s seat.

Firefighters proceeded to work a prolonged extrication to safely and carefully remove the occupant while providing patient care.

They say the process included stabilizing the vehicle, removing the vehicle’s roof, performing a dash roll to lift the dashboard away from the occupant, and removing the driver’s seatback. Over a dozen firefighters reportedly responded to the scene to provide the necessary personnel and equipment for the technical rescue along with medical care to the driver. SWFD Advanced Life Support crews then transported the patient to a local trauma center for further care.

The patient specifically remains unidentified to maintain as much privacy as possible.

South Walton Fire District says they appreciate the support and cooperation of their law enforcement partners at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol during the incident.
