St. Augustine man dead after car crash in St. Johns County roundabout

A St. Augustine man died after a car crash in a St. Johns County roundabout Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officials said the 63-year-old St. Augustine man was driving an SUV traveling towards State Road 16 through the roundabout on Silver Leaf Parkway.

A 69-year-old woman in a sedan was traveling through the roundabout too.

FHP said the SUV driver didn’t yield to the sedan and struck its right side.

Investigators said both cars redirected onto the median of the roundabout.

The SUV came to a final rest after colliding with two palm trees.

The driver was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The sedan came to a final rest after striking a palm tree and the driver had minor injuries.
