Duval County Public Schools said many of its schools experienced weather-related power and telephone outages on Friday morning.
The district said in the event of an emergency parents can call the Office of School Operations at 904-390-2675, and they will assist you in making contact with the school.
In addition, Bradford County School District notified Lawtey Elementary School parents that some parts of the school lost power, and they had no phone or internet service.
School officials said the power company is working to restore service, but they don’t know when the power will be turned back on.
“All students are safe and are continuing with their daily schedules. Parents wishing to come and check their child out are welcome to do so,” school officials wrote.
On the Dames Point Bridge, a tractor-trailer flipped on its side. Only one northbound lane of the bridge was open as of 10 a.m. It reopened hours later.
FHP said the trailer was empty, so it’s possible it was blown over by a wind gust. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
