Troopers and deputies rescue man and woman trapped inside flipped car in Lehigh Acres

On Saturday, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office worked together to rescue a man and woman from inside a flipped car in Lehigh Acres.

Troopers and deputies were already at the intersection of Gunnery Road S and 8th Street SW for an accident, when a second one happened in the southbound lane.

FHP said they believe one of the vehicles turned in front of the other and caused a rollover crash.

“An FHP trooper and two LCSO deputies immediately assisted by extricating the occupants in the overturned vehicle,” FHP Lt. Greg Bueno said.

The LCSO deputy captured the rescue on his body-worn camera. It shows the moment he smashed out the front windshield to create a crawl space for the people stuck inside, as a trooper stabilized the car.

Troopers say one person had to be transferred to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

FHP is still looking into what caused the crash.
