Two people were critically injured on Tuesday night after their motorcycle struck a government vehicle while fleeing from a traffic stop in Ocala.
According to the Ocala Police Department, at around 11:15 p.m., a detective attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle near the 7-Eleven located at 917 N Pine Avenue. The reason for the traffic stop was not specified.
OPD stated that the motorcycle, which had two riders, proceeded to flee from the detective. The motorcycle then ran a red light at the intersection of N Pine Avenue and NW 10th Street, crashing into a Marion County government pickup truck.
The motorcycle’s unidentified driver and passenger were both transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash.
In a social media post on Wednesday morning, OPD stated that the incident is currently under investigation.
