Two Destin restaurants are out of business after a fire ripped through the building they’re housed in Wednesday morning.
This is the second restaurant fire in Destin the past week-and-a-half. Last week, Tailfins was heavily damaged by fire.
The whole building is left badly damaged. Glass is shattered, parts of the roof is gone, among other damages.
The restaurants, Blue Mahoe and Mikato, opened not too long ago on Highway 98. Now they’ll be out of operation for the summer season.
“It was bad,” Destin resident Tiano Delgado said. “I was surprised seeing how bad it was — especially after the Tailfins fire just happened. That one it seemed they were able to it get under control a little more quicker, this whole building is gone.”
Destin Fire Rescue reports getting a call for the fire just after 2 a.m. Officials say two firefighters were injured.
The owner of the building didn’t want to talk on camera Wednesday. She did share a message she sent to her employees and family, saying she’s not losing faith in this devastating time.
She said the restaurants were just starting to gain their footing, calling this fire heartbreaking.
“Now you have three restaurants on the harbor, within a quarter mile of each, completely shut down for business at one of the busiest tourist times of the year for Destin,” Delgado said.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
