Two Leesburg women were arrested for battery after getting into an alleged altercation that ended with them fighting on the ground.
A deputy to a battery at 11707 Fairmont Ave., Leesburg, around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Dispatch advised that one of the women involved in the altercation left the residence.
Upon arrival, the officer met with 33-year-old R N H and a male victim/suspect who stated 32-year-old C L M started a physical altercation with them and then left on foot. A juvenile witness advised that he saw the entire altercation, the report said.
The deputy first spoke to the male subject who advised that he was in an argument with M over his daughter and who she spent time with. During that time, he said something to her which triggered her to swing a closed fist at him and strike him as he tried to dodge. He then pushed her away and onto the floor where she busted her lip open, the report said.
M began saying the victim hit her and started packing her belongings. As she did so, she was outside and got into a verbal altercation with H. They then started arguing over M slamming the door to the residence. M struck H with a closed fist, and the two women went to the ground fighting before being broken up by the neighbor, the report said.
The deputy next talked with H who advised that she did not see the start of the physical altercation between the victim and M but could hear from her bedroom. She came out to the two of them arguing. Monroe then began packing up her belongings and loading them into her vehicle, the report said.
H told M not to slam the door to her residence, and an argument ensued. M made a comment about her residence and then struck H in the face with a closed fist. The two of them started fighting on the ground as a result, the report said.
The juvenile witness gave a similar statement to his mother, H, and his cousin, the victim. He advised that he observed M strike the victim and the victim shoving her to the ground. He also saw M strike his mother with a closed fist which started the physical fight outside, the report said.
H, the victim and the juvenile witness all said they did not want to provide a written statement. Neither H nor the victim wished to prosecute, the report said.
Another deputy made contact with M at Sunland Avenue and Pala Verda Avenue at that point. She advised that she was in an argument with the victim when he got upset about a comment she made. He then shoved her to the ground, and when she got up, he struck her with a closed fist in the mouth, causing her to fall to the ground again, the report said.
When M got up, she was calling the cops when the victim got her phone out of her hand. She grabbed her phone and ran outside calling for help. H followed behind her, telling her no one would believe her story and that she would defend her family, the report said.
H then began striking M who defended herself before the fight was broken up. M began walking away from the residence while she was screaming at her. She provided a statement with intent to prosecute, the report said.
The neighbor first stated he only heard M call for help and then saw two women engaged in a fight before breaking them up. He later advised that he observed the two from his bathroom window. He saw M exit the residence and scream out for help while being followed by H, the report said.
The neighbor saw them exchange words before M struck H with a closed fist, and the two of them started fighting on the ground. He went to residence and grabbed H to get her away from M, the report said.
M’s brother-in-law and sister arrived on scene shortly after the deputy made contact with her and advised that the victim has tried to get her in trouble before by means of stating she was the cause of domestic issues, the report said.
Both H and M had noticeable signs of injuries. Lake County EMS was called to the scene to observe M’s injuries due to two large lumps on her head. She was cleared on scene. There were no signs of injury to the victim, and photographs were taken of H and M, the report said.
The report noted that there were several instances where the witnesses’ verbal statements changed along with H and the victim’s. Due to the consistent changes in statements coupled with the lack of independent witnesses and no video footage, no arrest was made at the time. There was a video camera at the scene, but the deputies were told it did not work. They were later told it did work, but the landlord, who was not present at the time, was the only one with access.
Contact was later made with H over the phone. A detective informed her that due to the injuries found by deputies at the original scene, she and M were both going to be charged. She agreed to cooperate and to meet at the Lake County Jail on Wednesday morning, the report said.
H was arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was brought into jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
M was also arrested Wednesday, Dec. 4 on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was transported to LCJ and released after posting $1,000 bond.
