An 86-year-old woman died Monday after she was accidentally run over by her 87-year-old sister, who had just dropped her off at her Pasco County home, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at a home in the 8700 block of Elm Leaf Court in Port Richey.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was checking her mail as her sister was backing out of the driveway. After shifting gears, the 87-year-old hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, and accidentally drove her vehicle into her sister as she stood by the mailbox. The vehicle continued forward and hit a tree and a parked car.
The victim, who was not identified, died at the scene.
Further information about the crash was not immediately available.
