A 22-year-old man is facing a hate crime charge after authorities say he targeted a man on South Beach in a homophobic attack Wednesday. According to Miami Beach police, the beating happened just before 6 a.m. on the beach near Lummus Park. A 16-year-old boy died after he was apparently struck by lightning while riding a bicycle in Pembroke Pines, police said. The incident happened Wednesday in the area of Southwest 67th Avenue and Southwest 6th Street. Pembroke Pines Police officials said the teen was found lying in the grass in the area and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name hasn’t been released. An illegal immigrant from Mexico was arrested for discharging a firearm from a vehicle in Santa Rosa Beach on Wednesday. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Bella Boulevard following a call regarding a shooting in the area. According to a witness, 29-year-old Jose Cruz Michua was stopped in a pickup truck in front of an address where they were working. As a result, deputies said he fired two shots in the air from a handgun.

A 17-year-old in Volusia County is recovering after deputies say he was slashed across his nose and lip with a knife during an argument.
