A 40-year-old man drowned over the Labor Day holiday weekend after being swept out into the Gulf of Mexico by a rip current, according to deputies.  The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened Saturday at James Lee Park in Destin.  The man, who has not yet been identified, was swimming with his juvenile son, who also got pulled out by the rip current, deputies said. A bicyclist had to be taken to a hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Fort Myers. The crash happened Sunday night near Evans Avenue and Linhart Avenue. According to the Fort Myers Police Department, the bicyclist had serious injuries and remains in the hospital. FMPD said the driver remained at the scene after the crash. A 26-year-old Lake Placid man riding an ATV died in a crash near Highlands Boulevard and Cumberland Street. The crash happened around 1:04 a.m. Monday.  A tragedy unfolded on the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near Boynton Beach on Tuesday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) released new details of the fatality. A 43-year-old Port Orange man was killed early Tuesday when his pickup truck crashed into a canal, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened just after midnight on Tomoka Farms Road near Halifax Drive. According to a crash report, the man was heading south on Tomoka Farms Road when the truck ran off the roadway and overturned into a canal.
