A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after accidentally shooting himself in Fort Myers on Sunday. According to the Fort Myers Police Department, the boy shot himself after an accidental discharge of a firearm. FMPD confirmed that the Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident, as it is not known at this time how the 14-year-old came to be in possession of the gun. A fire damaged a two-story home on 18th Street West Sunday afternoon, displacing several residents. The Bradenton Fire Department responded to the blaze, which charred the top half of the home. A man was struck and killed Sunday night while crossing a road in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal wreck happened around 8:35 a.m. on County Road 484 at SE 47th Avenue. The FHP said a 47-year-old Ocklawaha woman was driving east on C.R. 484 and “was not able to see” the man, who was walking north across the eastbound lanes.
