State troopers are investigating a deadly traffic crash involving a pedestrian near Leesburg. It happened around 4 a.m. Thursday on County Road 44 near Cypress Drive. Florida Highway Patrol investigators said a car struck a woman who was walking on CR-44. Troopers said the Ford Focus was eastbound when it hit the woman, who was in the direct path of the oncoming car. Investigators said it was not clear why the woman was on the roadway before she was struck.

A man died and a woman was critically injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash on Interstate 295. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old woman was driving a sedan with a 36-year-old passenger north on I-295 around 4:30 p.m. As she approached the Interstate 10 exit ramp, FHP said she failed to maintain her lane while traveling along the curve, causing the vehicle to rotate and hit a tree.
