A 15-year-old Melbourne teen riding an electric scooter was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Viera early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the crash happened just before 4 a.m. on Father’s Day near Viera Boulevard and Independence Avenue. Investigators said a 2009 Hyundai Genesis was traveling east on Viera Boulevard east of Independence Avenue when it veered onto the outside shoulder, where the teenager was riding an electric scooter in the same direction as traffic.
