A woman walking on U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach was hit and killed by a vehicle early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Dog appears to have killed owner inside Florida home, police say.

Miami-Dade police believe a dog may have killed a man inside his home Tuesday night. Around 7:07 p.m., investigators responded to the man’s home after his friend found him dead in the garage. Police found the victim on the floor with multiple dog bite wounds. NBC affiliate WTVJ identified the man as 29-year-old Alexander Andres Torres. Sand dunes damaged during storms in Pinellas County; some access points closed.

Two separate vehicles struck Jacksonville resident Melinda Heaser, 58, on Monday. Details have been released by the Jacksonville Police Department on a car accident which killed a woman on Monday. Two Youngstown men awakened by deputies from severe house fire.

Photo by: Mypanhandle Firefighters suspect a fireplace may have had a lot to do with a fire that destroyed a Youngstown home. First responders did not discover it until Wednesday morning. But they believe it began around midnight Tuesday night when the occupants started a fire in the fireplace. The 1940’s fireplace failed, allowing embers into the attic, where they smoldered overnight. Sheriff’s deputies woke the residents just after 9 a.m. telling them smoke was coming out of the roof.
